Founded in 1971, the Cambridge Women’s Center (CWC) is the oldest continuously running community center for women in the United States. CWC is open to anyone for whom “woman” is a meaningful identifier or lived experience, offering a safe space for learning, emotional support, empathy, and empowerment through self-determination. We serve a diverse population, including people of various races, many of whom are experiencing homelessness, past trauma, mental health challenges, and more

Program Coordinator

The Cambridge Women’s Center (CWC) seeks a part-time Program Coordinator to support its Drop-In program. This on-site role requires availability from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with limited flexibility. The Program Coordinator will provide support during regular program hours, under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Services. The anticipated start date is in April.

Responsibilities:

Program & Space Management:

Drop-in Space Operations: Support volunteer team in maintaining the drop-in space for daily operations, including setup, restocking supplies, and kitchen food transfer.
Program Oversight: Ensure a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all participants during drop-in hours.
Space Maintenance & Closure: Oversee end-of-shift cleaning, including waste management (trash, compost, recycling), and secure building closure (lights, HVAC, doors).
Volunteer & Support:

Volunteer Coordination: Manage monthly volunteer scheduling and ensure adequate staffing for drop-in shifts.
Volunteer & Intern Support: Provide guidance, training, and emotional support to volunteers and interns.
Participant & Conflict Resolution:

Conflict De-escalation: Effectively resolve conflicts and mediate disputes within the drop-in space.
Boundary Management: Establish and enforce program guidelines and boundaries with participants, including implementing suspensions as necessary.
Operational & Communication:

Food Management: Oversee food distribution and maintain kitchen sanitation standards.
Supply & Maintenance Communication: Proactively communicate supply needs and maintenance issues to the Director of Programs.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following attributes:

Minimum 2 year Direct experience working or volunteering with adults.
Proven ability to de-escalate conflict.
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in dynamic situations.
Capacity for independent work and team leadership; experience leading volunteer teams is preferred.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including adults experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and/or substance use disorders; experience with these populations is preferred.
Commitment to advancing racial equity and dismantling systemic racism.
Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).

Our Drop-In Hours, held Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 1-6 PM, offer crucial support to our community. During these hours, volunteers provide food services, material aid (including personal hygiene supplies and clothing), resource and referral assistance, computer help, access to our clothing room and public phone, emotional support, and facilitate various groups and workshops. Volunteers also have the opportunity to engage with guests individually or in small groups.
