Mission Statement
The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to work in partnership with communities to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities. The BPHC sets an expectation that all staff and leadership commit, individually and as part of the BPHC team, to hold ourselves accountable to establishing a culture of anti-racism and advance racial equity and justice through each of our bureaus, programs, and offices.
Job Description
- Works to help BPHC advance as an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by the BPHC Anti-Racism Policy.
- Establish a city-wide Youth Prevention Collaborative, a high-level interdisciplinary working group that will advise policy and drive the implementation of youth prevention strategies.
- Recruit a broad range of representatives, including youth and families, to participate in the Youth Prevention Collaborative.
- Target underserved areas of Boston with purposeful outreach and programming. Identify and implement strategies for more intensive education and outreach to high-risk youth and other special populations, like LGBTQ youth, and their caregivers.
- Coordinate training events for government and community leaders on topics such as youth substance use prevention, trauma, wellness, and youth resilience.
- Assist across city departments to develop policy and program guidance around substance use prevention Provide timely and high-quality completion of all deliverables, reports and documentation.
- Lead a team of four to six staff, including interns.
- Activities will include fiscal management, community organizing, report writing, meeting coordination and facilitation, training, legislative review, technical assistance to community partners, and community outreach.
- Represent Recovery Services in various settings, community partners, individuals and other stakeholders.
- Liaise across city and state agencies in the implementation of new youth initiatives.
- Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting prevention staff as it relates to the program.
- Supervise youth prevention staff and interns providing training, one-on-one, group supervision.
- Recruitment, retention, onboarding and training of new programmatic staff.
- Develop internal policies and procedures related to Youth Substance Use/Misuse Prevention programming.
- Facilitate evaluation activities related to any grant/programmatic activities
- Develop, implement and manage projects related to the program for the provision of services and to ensure effective operations and compliance with established standards, contracted goals, and objectives.
- Update staff on new issues, trends, news etc. related to youth and family prevention and intervention services.
- Jointly oversee OJJDP Opioid-Affected Youth & Family grant objectives and initiatives in collaboration with BPHC Violence Prevention Division. Dedicate 15% of time to OJJDP Opioid-Affected Youth & Family Grant.
- Oversee CopeCode Club prevention campaign activities, implementation, metrics, and expansion.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.
- Master’s degree in public health or related field OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ relevant experience or 6 plus years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree.
- Program evaluation and grant management experience preferred.
- Experience in substance use prevention, intervention, community health planning, community organizing and providing technical assistance is essential.
- Project management experience preferred. Strong group facilitation skills required. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Leadership capability and demonstrated successful experience working with diverse populations is required. Experience working with youth preferred.
- Bilingual language capability preferred.

Pay Range
$80,000 – $90,000
