Position: Advocacy & Engagement Coordinator Bilingual

What will you be doing?

Making an impact every day. You will be part of a dynamic, passionate team of professionals who advocate for policy change and engage EMPath clients and the public in EMPath’s mission to disrupt poverty.

In this position, you will:

  • Recruit and support clients to join EMPath advocacy group (Voices Advocacy Council -VAC) and other advocacy activities. This includes planning and facilitating meetings in English and Spanish, recruitment and retention of members, providing information sessions at program sites and carrying out other outreach and engagement activities
  • Provide resources to EMPath staff for all issues relative to basic needs programs (cash assistance, SNAP, rental assistance, childcare vouchers, etc.). This includes outreach and awareness building, development of a tracking system and protocol for follow-up and creating materials  
  • Run voter engagement drives and helps educate clients and staff on voting  
  • Solicit feedback from clients to create and inform advocacy  
  • Support the Story Sharing Network by helping to engage participants who speak Spanish in sharing their life stories 
  • Translate advocacy materials into Spanish and provides live translation at events 
  • Work with other departments to integrate advocacy work throughout the organization and learn from colleagues about the needs and experiences of clients; carry out internal advocacy presentations and trainings  
  • Partner with the EMPath’s training team to coordinate opportunities for learning 
  • Develop content for newsletters, social media and website in conjunction with our communications team  
  • Support EMPath’s budget and legislative efforts; helps plan and organize lobby days and advocacy events  
  • Represent EMPath at meetings and events
  • Update EMPath’s database and other administrative tasks

 

What traits and experiences do you need to be successful in this role?

 

  • Spanish fluency required 
  • 3+ years of relevant experience with demonstrated strong capabilities in community engagement/organizing, advocacy, government, legal aid or direct services 
  • Strong public speaking and meeting facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of the Massachusetts or federal budget and legislative process  
  • Experience with or background in basic needs programs preferred 
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, resolve conflicts and solve problems with minimal supervision 
  • Strong communicator with ability to build relationships and use influence to guide others 
  • Adequate experience with computer systems, Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint) online databases, social media and basic web communications; Zoom and other online platforms 
  • A flexible self-starter with a great deal of initiative, self-confidence and ability to anticipate needs 
  • Desire to grow as a professional, and a deep belief in continuously learning.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA). preferred.

Pay transparency  This role is budgeted up to $58,000 annually. The salary range for this position is dependent on the candidate’s level of experience.
